Wild Giant Panda Images Captured
The images of a wild Giant Panda were captured on an infrared-triggered camera mounted in the Huangtuliang area in Wanglang Nature Reserve in Pingwu County, Sichuan Province, which is expected to serve as a corridor connecting Giant Panda groups in the northern Minshan Mountains. The camera is set 200 meters from a mountain road, which will be closed when a tunnel going through Huangtuliang is completed in June 2012. There are 9 photos of the Giant Panda taken on a lightly rainy mid-August night. It's a healthy adult Giant Panda, who sometimes sat on the ground and sometimes walked around a rock. The camera also captured images of other animals such as takins, tufted deer, gorals, etc. In 2009, WWF helped Pingwu County make a plan to restore vegetation in the Huangtuliang area. Monitoring Giant Pandas via infrared-triggered cameras to find out the determining factors of the use of the Huangtuliang corridor by Giant Pandas is the first step of the vegetation restoration process.

Could Panda Poop Solve Bio Fuel Woes?

Biofuels might be a way to make energy out of renewable resources and cut dependence on fossil fuels but producing them from corn and other edible plants has proved to be problematic. However, a group of researchers believes they may have found a solution using Panda poop.

The microbes in the feces of Giant Pandas break down super-tough plant material in grass, corn stalks and wood chips, the researchers reported Monday, 8/29/12) at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society held in Denver. If the technique works on a large scale, inedible plants and plant waste could be used as biofuels replacing edible corn.

"Who would have guessed that 'panda poop' might help solve one of the major hurdles to producing biofuels, which is optimizing the breakdown of the raw plant materials used to make the fuels?" study researcher Ashli Brown, biochemist at Mississippi State University, said in a statement. "We hope our research will help expand the use of biofuels in the future and help cut dependency on foreign oil."

Pandas International Members Donate In Lieu of Favors at Wedding

wedding
As we started planning our wedding I knew I wanted to do a donation in lieu of favors and wanted to give that donation to an organization that meant something to me. I immediately went online and researched what organizations raise money for panda bears exclusively and came upon Pandas International. Pandas are near and dear to my heart and have been for many years. I have 6 of them tattooed on me and more stuffed panda bears than any grown woman should probably own (if you ask my husband haha). This past summer I saw them in person for the first time in Washington, DC at the zoo. I think giving a donation in lieu of a favor is a thoughtful touch to a wedding and would recommend it to anyone as they plan their wedding! Jen and Jon Michalski got married on September 10, 2011 at the Saratoga National Golf Club in Saratoga, New York. Thank you very much for the wonderful donation and for always thinking about the Giant Pandas!

Middle School Girls Help Raise $90 at PetsMart

Two girls from Carver Middle School in Delray Beach participated in their schools World Fair. As part of the fair they were asked to raise money for a charity. They chose to help Pandas International by creating a booth outside of PetsMart. In four short hours they were able to raise $90 for the Giant Pandas and inform many more people about Pandas International. Thank you girls for helping to educate people about the environment and the Giant Pandas!

Bainbridge Christian Church Adopts Panda
Kids from Bainbridge Christian Church raised enough money during the Vacation Bible School this summer to adopt a Panda. They collected the money doing a penny war each night for the five nights of bible school. It is amazing how competitive kids can be. What was even more impressive was that most of the kids attending bible school came from lower income families. Thank you very much to all of the kids who were so gracious with their donations.
